India Set to See Boost From British Tourists, Reports Skyscanner
Dépèche transmise le 17 janvier 2012 par PRNewswire
SINGAPORE, January 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Early indications from flight comparison site Skyscanner [http://www.skyscanner.co.in ] have revealed that India is expected to see an increase in British visitors this year.
The sub-continent jumped unexpectedly into the top ten list of the most popular destinations that were searched for on Tuesday 10th January 2012 - the busiest day of the year for visits to the site.
Almost 600,000 visits were recorded on the Skyscanner UK site on Tuesday with so many of them searching for flights to India that it pushed the destination to position nine, up six places from last year.
The data was released following Skyscanner's busiest day (10th Jan 2012), when hundreds of thousands of British users logged on to the site to research and book their flights for 2012, and is a good indication of the travel behaviour expected throughout the rest of the year.
Top Ten most searched destinations on Skyscanner for British Tourists
1. Spain 2. USA 3. UK 4. Italy 5. France 6. Turkey 7. Germany 8. Portugal 9. India 10. Greece
The top five most popular arrival points for British visitors flying to India are: Delhi [http://www.skyscanner.co.in/flights-to/del/cheap-flights-to-delhi-airport.html ], Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore [http://www.skyscanner.co.in/flights-to/blr/cheap-flights-to-bangalore-airport.html ] and Ahmedabad.
Kavitha Gnanamurthy, Market Development Manager for India, commented:
"India has long had strong connections with the UK, with a high volume of visitors between the two nations. The sub-continent has always held great allure for British travellers, with its diverse landscape, climate and culture proving very attractive to tourists. In addition to this, over one million people with Indian heritage live in the UK, with many of them visiting friends and family in India on a regular basis. Due to the heavy depreciation of rupee value in recent months, UK travellers may be attracted by the great value India currently offers."
