Thirteen Customer Sites Upgrade to Avtec’s Scout Release 2.1 in First 30 Days
GILBERT, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Avtec Inc., a provider of Internet Protocol (IP)-based dispatch console systems in North America, announced its latest software release, ScoutTM 2.1, is now in controlled deployment. ScoutTM release 2.1 incorporates significant feature enhancements based on market demand, including a key new driver supporting Kenwood TK-5710/TK-5810 P25 mobile radios. With the addition of the Kenwood driver, Avtec continues to lead the industry by offering the most diversified radio interconnectivity options available in an IP platform. Thirteen customer sites representing the public safety, airline, railroad, and utility markets participated in the controlled deployment program in December 2011.
“We upgraded to Scout 2.1 to leverage the advanced features supported in our Kenwood radios”
The Lincoln County Emergency Communications Center dispatches police, fire, and emergency medical services for the West Virginia cities of Hamlin, West Hamlin, and neighboring rural areas. The call center upgraded to the ScoutTM 2.1 release in December. “When we decided to replace the legacy ModUCom system, we wanted a dispatch console that worked with our existing Kenwood radios, was P25-CSSI compliant, and could tap into the WV Statewide Interoperable Radio Network (SIRN) in the future. Our previous system had a very limited feature set. The interfaces between Avtec and Kenwood provided many new features at a much lower cost than expected. The choice to select Avtec was very easy,” said Christopher Terry, systems administrator for the Lincoln County Emergency Communications Center. “We’re also able to use Scout’s new simultaneous tone and relay keying feature to repeat and extend radio signals across the mountains and valleys in our call center’s service area.”
The Mineral County West Virginia Office of Emergency Management purchased an Avtec Scout console with NENA headset package in 2009 to replace a Positron T5 Communications Control System. “We upgraded to Scout 2.1 to leverage the advanced features supported in our Kenwood radios,” said Jeremy Mongold, 911 dispatcher and IT technician for Mineral County’s Office of Emergency Management. “The live upgrade was a breeze – the entire process took less than 30 minutes – and the dispatchers were working the whole time.”
“The features in Scout 2.1, such as ‘telephone answer on ring,’ are a direct result of listening to our customers and channel partners and giving them what they want,” said Kevin Williams, vice president of product development at Avtec. “Customers want the flexibility to choose the radio system that’s best for them. When they install a Scout console, they know it will work with all the leading radio technologies in the market.”
