PPG Aerospace Introduces Aircraft Windshield Hump Seal Repair Kits
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) aerospace transparencies group has created kits for repairing commercial aircraft windshield moisture seals, which are also called hump seals, during maintenance checks in the hangar or overnight on the line.
“Regularly maintaining exterior windshield hump seals can extend the windshield’s service life”
“Regularly maintaining exterior windshield hump seals can extend the windshield’s service life,” said Aaron Anderson, PPG Aerospace global segment manager, repair services, transparencies. “These kits are easy to use and include all materials needed to complete a repair on an installed windshield.”
Seven types of kits have been created for repairing windshield moisture seals on various commercial aircraft. The kits come in easy-to-carry boxes and contain chromate-free PR-1425CF windshield sealant and PR-1861 adhesion promoter by PPG Aerospace. Also included is a hump seal forming tool that will ensure that the repaired seal has the same shape as the original moisture seal.
PPG Aerospace Hump Seal Repair Kits are available through PPG’s global network of application support centers, which are listed on the PPG Aerospace website at www.ppgaerospace.com. Anderson said PPG plans to introduce kits for windshields on general-aviation aircraft later this year.
