Memorial Day Airfare at Lowest Point in Years

SOUTHLAKE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Travelocity’s Memorial Day data report shows that the overall average airfare for travel on Memorial Day weekend, including both domestic and international bookings, is as low as airfare from 2006, despite an inflation rate of approximately 5 percent since then. According to Travelocity’s data, the overall average airfare for Memorial Day is $357, down 12 percent from last year, with international fares taking the steepest decline.

“International fares had been slower to decline than domestic fares but have taken a plunge for the holiday,” Amy Ziff, Travelocity’s editor-at-large, said, adding that international fares are 13 percent lower than last year. “With international capacity cuts planned for the fall, fares will likely increase. Travelers who have the discretionary income to do so should take advantage of these low fares while they last.”

International Fares

“Even though Memorial Day is largely a domestic holiday, and domestic fares are good, international travel is an even better value right now,” says Ziff. International airfares average $610 for Memorial Day, which is $50 lower than fares from back in 2005. When compared to last year, buyers save more than $100 on average.
