One Ocean Achieves Palm Status through State of Florida’s Green Lodging Program
ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--One Ocean Resort Hotel & Spa has earned One Palm status through the State of Florida’s Green Lodging Program (FGLP), administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The program encourages the lodging industry to conserve and protect Florida’s natural resources, with continued efforts and improvements necessary for properties to maintain their status.
“The leadership team and all One Ocean associates are keenly aware of our responsibility to the environment,” said Sileshi Mingeste, Vice President, Luxury Division, Remington. “We’re reminded every day as we look over the sand dunes and to the sparkling ocean that we are ultimately the caretakers of our environment and the future of our beach. Our team works diligently to identify conservation opportunities, and we are dedicated to improving our environmental practices and performance.”
In order to achieve One Palm Status, One Ocean Resort underwent a rigorous self-assessment using guidelines from the State of Florida. A One Ocean “Green Team” identified and evaluated numerous opportunities by conducting a thorough walkthrough of the property, as well as conducted an internal audit of product purchases, utility expenses and waste hauling records – all of which helped to determine environmental baselines.
FGLP also requires hotels to maintain certain green practices, which are verified on-site by a program assessor as part of the application process. Required green practices include:
- Regular staff communication regarding the hotel’s environmental policies
- Communicating environmental initiatives to guests and staff
- Water conservation, including the use of low flow faucets and toilets
- Energy Efficiency
- Waste Reduction
- Clean Air Practices
In addition to the environmental benefits of going green, One Ocean’s environmental practices will help reduce the property’s operating expenses, generate additional revenue by attracting environmentally-conscious business and leisure travelers and meeting planners, and position the hotel as a leader in the industry and community.
