Skyservice Airlines Achieves Ultimate Data Center Efficiency with Pillar Data Systems

Dépèche transmise le 7 avril 2009 par Business Wire

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Skyservice Airlines, the number one requested airline for the charter industry, is expanding its data center while satisfying its rigorous efficiency policies with Pillar Data Systems, the leading provider of Application-Aware storage systems. The Pillar Axiom™ was the only storage system that allowed the company to protect its initial storage investment and maximize storage capacity while reducing space and energy consumed.

In 2007, Skyservice expanded its green policy when it introduced Canada’s first fuel-efficient Boeing that saved fuel, cut noise and reduced the carbon footprint of each flight. Since then, the company has been committed to its efficiency promise, replacing office equipment and implementing new policies that are better for the environment. As such, the company decided to implement a new storage system with an eye toward protecting its initial and substantial investment.

“All of the storage vendors claim to be environmentally friendly,” said Hilton Reading, vice president of IT and CIO, Skyservice. “But when it came down to it, in order to get the environment-positive results, it was at the cost of performance and power. The Axiom was by far the best environmental alternative.”

Running a successful charter airline generates a significant amount of data—including data for fleet management and bookings, international customs security requirements, document encryption, and regulations and certifications. After looking at a range of storage products, Skyservice purchased the Pillar Axiom 600 because it easily consolidated with the company’s existing system while adding 10TB of storage capacity.

Ease of use was another key reason that Skyservice chose the Pillar Axiom 600. “In the last year, only 60 percent of the VMware migration had been completed because our existing system was so complex,” said Mr. Reading. “Within just two weeks of deploying the Pillar system, we completed another 30 percent of the project.”

“We designed the Pillar Axiom with our customers’ bottom line in mind,” said Bob Maness, vice president, Worldwide Marketing, Pillar Data Systems. “The simple interface, the smaller footprint, reduced cooling and power costs – they’re all subsets of our commitment to efficiency. Skyservice recognized they could achieve the ultimate storage system and went after it.”
