DB Schenker Named “Official Freight Logistics Sponsor” for IndyCar Racing League Series
FREEPORT, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Indy Racing League, the sanctioning body for the IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights, today announced a partnership with DB Schenker, the worldwide logistics company with operations in approximately 2,000 locations and 130 countries, naming one of the world’s leading logistics companies the “Official Freight Logistics Sponsor” of the IndyCar Series.
The IndyCar Series will coordinate logistics via DB Schenker’s American operation based in Freeport, NY and the company’s Sports Event Group. Overall, the logistics company will arrange transportation logistics for the series’ four Honda Accord safety cars at events across the United States and Canada in a specially designed and branded transporter.
The four Honda Accord safety cars include the car that paces all IndyCar series events and driven by Johnny Rutherford, the former Indy 500 champion and long-time IndyCar Series pace car driver. The other safety cars are used for VIP and special guest hot laps at all events as well as being on display in the IndyCar Series paddock.
In addition to coordinating logistics for the league’s safety car program DB Schenker will be able to assist in logistics for the series’ annual visit to Japan and other potential international venues in the future.
“We are excited and honored to be a sponsor of such a prestigious American race series,” said Heiner Murmann, CEO, Schenker, Inc. “The IndyCar Series is trusting us to provide a high degree of care and reliability with their official Safety Cars.”
DB Schenker’s Sports Event Group has a long history in many sports particularly handling worldwide logistics for many national governing bodies and organizing committees for the Olympics.
