Leaders from FAA, SESAR, AIA, IATA and ITT Hosting Forum During Paris Air Show to Discuss the Future of Global ATC Modernization

PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The aviation industry faces serious challenges as air traffic becomes more and more congested, decreasing efficiency and contributing to increased operating cost, passenger delays and aviation-related greenhouse gas emissions.

By 2015, the current U.S. ATC system will be unable to handle the rising number of aircraft and passengers, which are expected to increase 50 percent over the next decade. Meanwhile, in Europe, flights are expected to increase between 70 and 120 percent above 2007 levels by the year 2030.

To address these challenges, the U.S. and Europe are transforming their outdated ground-based air traffic control systems of today to more efficient satellite-based systems of the future.

On Monday, June 15, ITT is convening a panel of experts during the Paris Air Show to discuss how to overcome the major challenges associated with modernizing the world’s air traffic control systems.

Panel topics will also include harmonization and interoperability, as well as the safety, efficiency and environmental benefits of next generation ATC systems.

WHO: ITT Chairman and CEO Steve Loranger will host the event. Panelists participating in the roundtable include:

• Dorothy Reimold, Acting Administrator for International Aviation, Federal Aviation Administration – Reimold will bring the FAA’s experience with NextGen to the discussion.
• Peter Griffiths, Vice President for Europe, International Air Transport Association – Griffiths, informed by his former role as Director General of the U.K.’s Civil Aviation Authority, brings a European perceptive to the conversation.
• Marion Blakey, former FAA Administrator from 2002-2007 and current President and CEO, Aerospace Industry Association – Blakey led the development of NextGen during her time at the FAA. She is a leading proponent of air traffic control modernization.
• John Kefaliotis, Vice President of Next Generation Transportation Systems, ITT – Kefaliotis has overall responsibility for ITT’s execution of the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) program. ADS-B is the cornerstone of NextGen.
• A representative from Single European Sky ATM Research Programme (SESAR)
