HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--According to FlightAware's proprietary flight tracking database, general aviation (GA) flight activity has increased by 1.5% in June 2009 compared to May 2009, and has decreased by 8.5% in June 2009 compared to June 2008. The biggest change in activity was led by charter operators with an 8.6% increase in activity during June 2009 compared to May 2009.

The airport with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for the month of June 2009 was Nantucket Memorial in Nantucket, MA with a gain of 60.1%, contrasted by the airport with the biggest significant drop in traffic, which was Palm Beach Intl in West Palm Beach, FL with a loss of 32.1%. Year over year, the airport with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for June 2009 was Barnstable Muni in Hyannis, MA with an increase of 2.5%, but the biggest drop in GA traffic was found at San Francisco Intl in San Francisco, CA with a decrease of 30.3%.

General aviation single engine and multi-engine piston activity increased by 3.3% in June 2009 compared to May 2009, turboprop activity increased by 2.8% in June compared to May, and jet activity decreased by 2.0% in June compared to May. The aircraft type with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for the month of June was the Aero Commander 500 with a gain of 36.2%, contrasted by the aircraft type with the biggest significant drop in traffic, which was the Gulfstream Aerospace Gulfstream V with a loss of 14.1%. Year over year, the aircraft type with the largest significant gain in traffic for June was the Cessna 400 with an increase of 33.9%, but the biggest drop in traffic was found with the Eclipse 500 with a decrease of 54.8%.
