CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ITA Software, Inc., the leader in developing innovative solutions for the travel industry, today announced that the Charles River Conservancy has honored the company with a 2009 Distinguished Service Award. The award is in recognition of ITA’s corporate service event in May where more than 150 employees painted nearly a mile of seawall between the Longfellow Bridge and the Broad Canal in partnership with The Charles River Conservancy Stewardship Initiative.
Based in the heart of Kendall Square in Cambridge,ITA Software has a strong history of encouraging philanthropy at all levels of the organization. The large-scale seawall painting project officially kicked off an ongoing corporate Service Program where a Volunteer Committee organizes monthly volunteering opportunities focusing on a variety of community needs. Future events have been scheduled at Rosie’s Place, the Greater Boston Food Bank and the Pine Street Inn, organizations to which the company and individual employees have historically made financial donations. Earlier this year, ITA painted a section of the Woods Mullen Shelter, an emergency shelter operated by the Boston Public Health Commission Homeless Services Bureau.
“ITA is filled with enthusiastic employees interested in donating time to help make a positive impact on the community,” said Melissa Lawrence, director, Human Resources. “We are honored that this project was recognized by the Charles River Conservancy and look forward to more opportunities where we can give back.”
The Charles River Conservancy’s Volunteer Stewardship Program involves community members from Boston, Cambridge and surrounding towns in the renewal and restoration of the parklands along the Charles River. Corporations, groups and individuals that have made significant contributions to the conservancy are recognized each year with Distinguished Service Awards.
