Tutor Perini Awarded JFK Runway Project

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tutor Perini Corporation (NYSE: TPC), a leading civil and building construction company, (formerly known as Perini Corporation) announced that the Port Authority of NY&NJ awarded the company a $204 million contract to lengthen and widen Runway 13R-31L at John F. Kennedy International Airport. At a kick-off meeting held this morning, Governor David A. Paterson and Port Authority Executive Director Chris Ward heralded the positive improvements the runway rehabilitation will provide for the airport and New York; and the cooperation between the Port Authority, Federal Aviation Administration, contractor (Tutor Perini), union workers, local community and air travelers that will make this project a success.
Reconstruction of Runway 13R-31L, will begin immediately as part of the JFK Delay Reduction Program. At 14,572 feet, the runway is one of the longest in the nation and handles one-third of the airport’s annual operations. The project will widen the runway from 150 to 200 feet, includes milling six inches of existing runway asphalt and overlaying with 18 inches of concrete, widening taxiway intersections and creating greater taxiway access to enable more efficient aircraft movements; installing new runway lighting and electrical infrastructure; and installing new electrical feeder systems and accommodations for future navigational aids.
