Railinc Selects Teradata to Bring Business Intelligence To North American Freight Rail Operations
DAYTON, Ohio & CARY, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Railinc Corporation, the leading provider of hosted IT services for the rail industry, is launching a new, state-of-the-art, Web-based business intelligence service. At the center of the new service is a Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance from Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the world’s largest company solely focused on data warehousing and enterprise analytics.
Railinc is implementing the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance to create an information portal for railroads, rail car and equipment owners, shippers and other members of the rail industry in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Initially, the new service will bring better visibility of rail assets and maintenance costs, and ease waybill management.
“Railinc knows more about the position, contents and health of the North American rail fleet than any organization in the world. We are building on this knowledge to launch a comprehensive suite of Web reports, bulk data services and custom analytics,” said Railinc Vice President and Chief Information Officer Todd Bolon. “After evaluating other options, we believe that Teradata provides the best platform for us to develop this new reporting and analytics business unit.”
A second generation data warehouse appliance, the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance is purposely built to handle the complex. As with all members of the Teradata Platform Family, it has as its foundation the Teradata Database. This allows organizations to migrate to more powerful platforms without costly changes to load programs, data models or underlying structures as the workload expands. The Data Warehouse Appliance delivers a five- to 10-time performance improvement over other appliances at competitive price points.
“Teradata’s Data Warehouse Appliance was specifically designed to help organizations like Railinc quickly roll out a data mart solution and grow with them. Railinc will now be able to provide a unified view of information for all of its customers to make better, faster decisions,” said Lori Roets, senior industry consultant for transportation, Teradata Corporation.
