Qantas Airways Appoints Rohan Garnett Vice President, Leisure Sales for North America
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Qantas Airways has appointed Rohan Garnett vice president of leisure sales in North America, based in Los Angeles.
In his current role, Garnett will oversee the company’s relationships with industry trade partners, including travel agents and tourism authorities, etc., and manage group sales and business development initiatives aimed at generating passenger revenue through various strategic promotions, programs and relations. He will also be responsible for assisting with the overall commercial development of the region given his broad and internationally focused airline experience to date.
Garnett previously served as Group General Manager People for Jetstar Airways, where he was a founding member of the executive management team responsible for the day to day operations for the airline. His duties encompassed all aspects of human resources from recruitment, personnel training, occupational health and safety, as well as industrial relations. As Jetstar’s former head of customer service, Garnett was responsible for the creation of customer service functions, including cabin crew staff, catering and in-flight product.
“With Rohan’s extensive background and experience in all aspects of airline operations including sales, he will be an asset to Qantas’s North American management team,” said Wally R. Mariani, A.M., senior executive vice president, The Americas and Pacific. “His demonstrated leadership, strategic capabilities and proven track record position him to make significant contributions to the success of Qantas’s leisure sales unit in one of the most important travel markets in the world,” he added.
An avid airline enthusiast, Garnett was originally hired by Qantas as an industrial relations manager in 1994, which he followed with positions of increasing responsibility, including being seconded to British Airways before returning to Qantas and subsequently joining Jetstar prior to its incorporation as a business entity.
Garnett is a member of the Australian British Chamber of Commerce and is a trustee of the Committee for the Economic Development of Australia (CEDA). He is also a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a Williamson Community Leadership Fellow for 2006.
Garnett is married, has two sons, ages 5 and 7, and resides in the Westwood community of Los Angeles, California.
