FedEx Completes Major Facility Expansions in France and Mexico
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, announced the completion of two significant infrastructure projects within its global network: the expansion of its European Hub at Charles de Gaulle in Paris, France and the expansion of its bonded warehouse at Guadalajara International Airport in Jalisco, Mexico. Both newly-expanded facilities strengthen the company’s ability to deliver seamless service to customers around the world.
“Growing the FedEx footprint in key markets such as France and Mexico is part of a long-term international growth strategy designed to enhance our ability to provide world-class service to our customers,” said Michael L. Ducker, president, international, FedEx Express. “These substantial network expansions are also well-timed. As an economic recovery begins to take hold around the world, FedEx is well-positioned to connect our customers to opportunities in the global marketplace.”
Marking a Major Milestone in Europe
The FedEx Express European Hub at Charles de Gaulle – now in its 10th year of operation – has experienced impressive growth as the number of packages and documents flowing through the hub has nearly doubled since the facility opened in 1999. Today, the hub employs 2,600 team members and features:
- 300 flights per week
- Total floor space of 828,821 square feet
- Increased sort area from 533,889 square feet to 775,001 square feet
- Increased sort capacity from 54,000 to 61,500 documents and packages per hour
With the expansion complete, the FedEx Express European Hub at Charles de Gaulle becomes the largest FedEx hub outside the United States.
Improving the International Shipping Experience in Mexico
As one of the 10 largest cities in Latin America in terms of GDP, Guadalajara will provide FedEx customers with increased access to the region’s most prolific industries including textiles, pharmaceuticals and electronics. With the newly-expanded bonded warehouse at the Guadalajara International Airport in Mexico, FedEx will further support businesses of any size shipping internationally to and from 10 Mexican states, as well as Mexican domestic shipments, with larger and faster shipment processing capacity and custom clearance efficiencies.
The warehouse adds 42,054 square feet to the original 42,657 square feet, reduces shipment processing time by up to 40 percent with a sorting capacity of 4,000 packages per hour, and increases storage capacity by 83 percent. The additional space for package examination by customs brokers improves the efficiency of the customs clearance process, expediting the delivery of urgent shipments to customers. State-of-the-art technology also speeds processing, with same-day delivery of inbound shipments and faster outbound freight delivery.
