LowFares.com™ Survey Reveals Unexpected Jump in Holiday Flight Plans; 59% of Respondents Consider Flying This Season Versus 41% in 2008
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LowFares.comTM, the travel comparison search site for cheap flights, hotels, car rentals and vacation packages, reported today that a recent survey of more than 4,000 travelers showed that more than 59% plan to fly this holiday season, compared to 41% who flew last year. Twenty-eight percent said that they plan to stay local, a dramatic reduction compared to the 40% who planned no travel a year ago.
"The LowFares.com survey shows that consumers are ready to fly again—good news for the travel industry,” said Greg Samson, General Manager, LowFares.com. “The survey is useful to us, as it lets us provide better options for travelers. It’s also helpful to the industry to know we’re likely approaching a rebound.”
The survey also revealed:
- Price was the biggest consideration when booking travel, according to 82% of respondents
- Reward programs were the least influential factor in making travel decisions.
- Nine percent of survey participants plan to drive to their holiday destination this year, versus 16% in 2008.
- 92% of respondents stated that they visit three or more travel websites before making a travel decision and purchasing airline tickets.
“Consumers have told us they visit many travel sites before finalizing their travel plans,” Samson noted. “Travelers now realize that they can save considerable time by quickly comparing well known travel sites and travel deals all on LowFares.com to pinpoint the best value for their money during the upcoming holidays.”
