EMS Formation Boosts Capacity and Performance of ToughDisk® 3500 SATA Rugged Hard Disk to Meet Growing Mass Storage Demands

MOORESTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: ELMG) announced today the release of a new ToughDisk^® 3500 SATA (TD3500 SATA) Rugged Hard Disk. Storage capacity of the new TD3500 SATA hard disk has increased by more than 50 percent from 640 GB to 1 TB, compared with the previous product, and it also offers significantly improved performance, particularly under vibration conditions.

The TD3500 SATA hard disk performs reliably in temperature, altitude, shock, vibration, humidity, and dust conditions that would destroy conventional hard disks. The industry standard 3.5” form factor and SATA (Serial ATA) interface allows the TD3500 SATA hard disk to be used as a drop-in COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) replacement of conventional 3.5” low-profile drives, resulting in a storage capacity greater than equivalently performing SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) disks.

The TD3500 SATA hard disk can be used with high-end SAS controllers as well as with any of the ubiquitous embedded SATA ports. The units provide the performance of SAS enterprise-class disks without the heat and mechanical limitations of these 15K rpm disks. The TD3500 SATA product’s internal RAID (redundant array of independent disks) doubles the medial transfer rate normally available from rugged disks.
