Dépèche transmise le 25 octobre 2010 par PRNewswire
FRANKFURT, October 25, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Effective October 31, when Germany changes to winter time, Frankfurt Airport's new winter timetable 2010/2011 will feature 4,435 flight departures per week offered by 106 scheduled airlines flying to 266 destinations in 112 countries. The number of weekly departures will rise by 3.8 percent compared to the previous winter season. This capacity corresponds to 680,000 seats per week, up 6.4 percent year-on-year. With 138 intercontinental destinations, more than half of Frankfurt Airport's destinations will be outside of Europe - thus underscoring FRA's leading role as Germany's intercontinental gateway.
Home-based carrier Lufthansa's extensive network of long-haul connections will be expanded by two destinations this winter season. Discontinued in 2002, the service to the Colombian capital city Bogota (BOG) will resume, with five flights from Frankfurt per week. In Africa, Lufthansa (LH) also will be flying fives times per week to Pointe Noire (PNR) - the most important port city in the Republic of Congo - with a stopover in Libreville (LBV), Gabon. The Brazilian airline TAM (JJ) will continue serving the Rio de Janeiro (GIG) route five times per week, which it inaugurated in August 2010.
In its scheduled service to New York, Lufthansa will fly twice a day to Newark Airport (EWR); thus, Frankfurt and New York will be linked in both directions by seven daily flights this winter. In contrast, Air India (AI) has cancelled its Frankfurt hub services between Mumbai (BOM)/Ahmedabad (AMD) and New York (EWR)/Chicago (ORF). These connections will be replaced by non-stop flights between Delhi (DEL) and the U.S. In India, LH will continue its daily service to BOM, while DEL will still be served by both AI and LH with the same flight frequencies. American Airlines (AA) will drop its daily flight to Chicago in November; however, Lufthansa and Star Alliance partner United (UA) will be offering three daily flights to the "Windy City".
Sun Express (XQ) will expand its program to Turkey by increasing its number of destinations from 3 to 12. In addition to the current cities of Antalya (AYT), Istanbul (SAW) and Izmir (ADB), Sun Express will begin flying to the capital of Ankara (ESB) as well as Kayseri in the frequently visited Cappadocia tourist region, and the Black Sea coastal towns of Samsun and Trabzon; thus, XQ will increase its total of number of FRA connections to Turkey by 16 to 44 flights per week.
On European routes, Pristina (PRN) in Kosovo will be a new FRA destination flown by Adria Airways (JP) four times weekly. Lufthansa's service to Naples (RRO), Italy, which began in summer 2010, will be flown daily during the new winter schedule.
Compared to last year's winter schedule, Lufthansa will be adding another daily flight from FRA to several European destinations. These include Brussels (BRU), with 10 daily flights, Zurich (ZRH) with 7 daily flights, Basel (BSL) with 5 daily flights, Prague with 6 daily flights, and Gothenburg with 5 daily flights. Several destinations that received an additional daily flight during the summer timetable will be served unchanged during the upcoming winter season. These include Budapest (BUD), with 5 daily flights, Venice (VCE) with 5 daily flights and Marseille (MRS) with 3 daily flights. On December 1, British Airways (BA) will increase its frequencies from FRA to London-Heathrow (LHR) by 7 flights to 51 flights weekly. Austrian Airlines (OS) will continue to fly 4 times daily to Innsbruck this winter, unchanged from the current summer schedule.
In Germany, Lufthansa will add seven more flights per week on both of the "race track" routes from Frankfurt to Hamburg and Munich. Thus, LH will be offering 107 weekly frequencies to Hamburg and 91 to Munich.
