Barbecan Announces High Traffic Security Portal for Airport Entrance Doorways
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Barbecan Security Systems, LLC, an Intellectual Property and development company, today announced their patent-pending Linear Revolving Door (LRD) security portal technology for secure area entrances requiring high flow rates of pedestrian traffic.
Monday's bombing attack at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport demonstrates a significant vulnerability at many airports. For instance, US airports only screen passengers at the security checkpoints for departures. Main entrances are unguarded and people are free to enter arrival, baggage claim, and ticketing areas with luggage that could contain ANYTHING. In fact, an un-checked carry-on bag could be wheeled into the midst of a densely crowded queue at a security checkpoint, whereupon a detonation might conceivably cause twice the causalities of the Domodedovo bombing.
Adding conventional security checks at airport main entrances would be challenging. Conventional checkpoints have extremely slow throughput and main entrance doors have high traffic. Establishing queues outside is unacceptable due to weather. The LRD Robotic Security Portal is a high-traffic, robotic door system that operates unattended and can be integrated with one or more threat detection technologies to stop people with guns and/or explosives. Unlike conventional checkpoints, when a potential threat is detected, the suspect is physically PREVENTED by the LRD Portal from passing through.
