NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Institute for Defense and Government Advancement (IDGA) announces the Search and Rescue Canada Summit scheduled for April 11 – 13, 2011 in Ottawa, Ontario.
“We are honored to have the top SAR experts from all over Canada speak at the event”
Members from the Canadian Coast Guard (Department of Fisheries and Oceans), Department of National Defence, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Volunteer SAR Organisations convene in Ottawa this April to discuss and evaluate the current and future state of SAR technology and development.
IDGA’s SAR Canadian Summit will deliver a comprehensive overview of new Canadian requirements, emerging policies, latest programs, and acquisition efforts for Search and Rescue. Briefs will focus on lessons learned from US SAR, understanding key challenges facing Canadian Search and Rescue, current capabilities and future direction of Search and Rescue, and improving interoperability between services and agencies.
“We are honored to have the top SAR experts from all over Canada speak at the event,” said Program Director Nicole Bacani. “We have already received tremendous response from the community - I believe the caliber and diversity of our speaker roster speaks to that.”
The SAR Canada Summit is comprised of a Pre-Summit Focus day and a comprehensive two day summit. The two day SAR Canada Summit will feature topical sessions including Defense R&D, Search and Rescue in the Artic, Parks Canada Perspective on Search and Rescue among others. The Pre-SAR Canada Summit Focus Day on April 11, 2011 will concentrate on SAR Training and Techniques in a more interactive, intimate setting.
The Search and Rescue speaker roster includes:
- Jack Kruger, RCMP “G” Division, SAR Coordinator, Canadian Coast Guard
- David Lever, Standards Development Officer, Search & Rescue Program Specialist, Canadian Coast Guard HQ
- Dr. Patrick Maupin, Defence R&D Canada
- Leah Braithwaite, Canadian Ice Service Environment Canada
“In addition to an excellent summit, IDGA has really become a great resource for Search and Rescue content,” Bacani said. “Our partners have helped up develop a comprehensive online SAR Canada Resource Library that includes the latest search and rescue articles from around the world, exclusive podcasts and more. It’s created a fantastic SAR community that stretches throughout Canada and beyond.”
