Stanford and IATA to Offer Unique Distance Learning Program to Aviation Professionals

STANFORD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) today signed an agreement to develop and deliver a distance learning aviation management program. This one of a kind offering will combine management and aviation training to prepare tomorrow’s aviation professionals to be the world’s most knowledgeable leaders, equipped with the skills to guide the next century of progress and excellence in air transport.

Despite turbulent times, the need for highly trained aviation professionals is on the rise and expected to continue its trajectory. Passenger and cargo volumes are predicted to increase significantly in the coming decades. Safety remains the industry's highest priority and demands continuous advances in technology. To manage this increasing complexity, aviation professionals must have access to the best education and training. The partnership between IATA and SCPD will help address these needs. “This unique global and industry-wide certification program is aimed at developing a new generation of global aviation executives, able to operate across boundaries and successfully lead our industry in the challenging years to come,” said Guido Gianasso, vice-president of human capital for IATA, at today’s signing ceremony.

IATA, an international trade body representing 230 airlines, will deliver the aviation component of the program, offering students in-depth knowledge of the air transportation system, its function, role and scope. SCPD, the professional development arm of the Stanford School of Engineering, will deliver the management component of the program, preparing students for the business elements of the aviation industry through a blend of courses that include strategic execution, leadership, and program management.

IATA’s partnership with SCPD will offer students unique flexibility in aviation education from leaders in their respective fields. All six required courses are available through distance learning, providing professionals throughout the world with the opportunity to participate. Upon completion of all required courses, students will be awarded a Stanford-IATA Aviation Management Certificate and will automatically be registered with IATA as a Certified Aviation Management Professional (AVMP).
