WHAT: Live demonstration of the life-size, hummingbird-like Nano Air Vehicle (NAV) developed by AeroVironment, Inc. (AV) (NASDAQ: AVAV) for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
WHY: To offer the media an up-close-and-personal look at the two-wing, flapping aircraft with a 16-centimeter (6.5 inches), tip-to-tip wingspan and weighing two-thirds of an ounce (less than the weight of a common AA battery) going through various maneuvers – climbing and descending vertically, flying sideways left and right, flying forward and backward, as well as rotating clockwise and counter-clockwise, under remote control and carrying a video camera payload. Event will include a Q&A session with AV personnel.
WHAT ELSE: See displays of other innovative AeroVironment products, including:
- Puma™, Raven® and Wasp™ small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) - used extensively by the U.S. Department of Defense.
- Global Observer™, AV’s High-Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) UAS – the first Global Observer air vehicle recently completed its historic first flight powered by the aircraft’s hydrogen-fueled propulsion system at Edwards Air Force Base (EAFB) in California marking the beginning of high altitude, long endurance flight testing for the demonstration and operational utility phase of the Joint Capability Technology Demonstration (JCTD) program.
- AV’s electric vehicle charging systems – now being installed in homes and at businesses across the country.
- An additional flight demonstration of AV’s small UAS is planned to follow the briefing at a nearby location, contingent upon weather conditions. Those interested in attending this demonstration must confirm their participation in this additional event in their RSVP.
