BAE Systems’ Integrated SMART V Bound for AUSA Winter after Going Through its Paces at NATC

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Performance, protection, payload and affordability were the watch words as representatives from the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, and other organizations got their first rides in the BAE Systems Integrated SMART V (ISV) HMMWV recap offering during the Nevada Automotive Test Center’s (NATC) annual Vehicle Systems Demonstration held February 9 in Carson City, Nevada.

“With the ISV, we are focused on the delivery of a useable, reliable multipurpose vehicle that will provide America’s soldiers and marines with the uncompromising protection and tactical agility they require in today’s ever-changing operational theatres, all at an affordable price”

With an estimated 60,000 U.S. Military HMMWVs expected to be identified for repairs and underbody blast improvements, BAE Systems is moving forward with evaluating all aspects of the ISV’s operation and performance.

“Proving paper claims through rigorous tests and demonstrations is essential, and the NATC event provided us with the ideal venue to do the latter while also getting valuable feedback from Army and Marine Corps experts. With the ISV, we aimed to clearly demonstrate that the HMMWV’s survivability can significantly be improved, while its overall mobility, ride quality and stability are enhanced utilizing proven technology,” said Chris Chambers, Line Leader with BAE Systems’ Global Tactical Systems business. “We are very pleased with its performance to date, and want to ensure that the maximum number of lessons learned from combat experience are incorporated into the ISV’s adaptable, modular design,” added Chambers.

The ISV design is rooted in BAE Systems’ heritage of developing and producing battle proven mine-resistant vehicles, which are currently protecting troops around the world. It has been developed using a systems approach to balance performance, payload, protection, crew safety and affordability.

“With the ISV, we are focused on the delivery of a useable, reliable multipurpose vehicle that will provide America’s soldiers and marines with the uncompromising protection and tactical agility they require in today’s ever-changing operational theatres, all at an affordable price,” added Chambers.

The ISV will be displayed in the BAE Systems booth #2422 during the Association of the United States Army’s (AUSA) ILW Winter Symposium & Exposition February 23-25 at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
