FiberPatrol Perimeter Security System Completes DHS-TSA Evaluation

NEWTOWN, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Optellios, Inc., announced today that its FP1100-X perimeter intrusion detection system has been independently evaluated in coordination with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The evaluation report, DHS/TSA 2600.02.01.10-088, titled “Optellios FiberPatrol FP1100-X Perimeter Intrusion Detection System Effectiveness Evaluation Test Report”, is available through TSA ACO-200 Web Bulletin Board System to airport security directors and other authorized personnel and organizations.

“The system was set up in a matter of hours and performed without any adjustments for the entire evaluation period and thousands of individual tests. After the initial installation, we didn’t return to the test site until it was time to retrieve the equipment”

The FP1100-X is an advanced fiber-optic intrusion detection system for perimeter fence applications. The system uses a standard, communications grade long-range optical fiber cable to detect and locate intrusion attempts, including multiple coordinated intrusions. The system remains operational even after the sensing cable has been severed, which is a unique capability among existing fence sensor technologies.

The assessment of the FP1100-X was carried out by National Safe Skies Alliance, an independent third-party non-profit organization funded by the Federal Aviation Administration. Safe Skies is chartered to serve the public interest in aviation safety and security by providing impartial testing and effective evaluation of safety and security systems.

The FP1100-X system underwent daily testing over a 9 month period between November 2009 and July 2010, covering the full spectrum of seasonal weather conditions. “The system was set up in a matter of hours and performed without any adjustments for the entire evaluation period and thousands of individual tests. After the initial installation, we didn’t return to the test site until it was time to retrieve the equipment,” said George Zisk, Optellios Vice-President of Operations.

“We firmly believe that FiberPatrol systems provide an exceptionally capable and cost effective solution for airport perimeter security,” added David Smith, Optellios President and CEO. “We encourage everyone with a responsibility to secure our nation’s airports and other transportation facilities to obtain Safe Skies reports on FP1100-X and any competing products, and make an informed decision about which solution can deliver the top performance and value for their application,” concluded Mr. Smith.
