Textron Defense Systems Earns CMMI® Maturity Level 3
WILMINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Textron Defense Systems, an operating unit of Textron Systems, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today that the company’s Wilmington, Mass., headquarters has been appraised at Maturity Level 3 of the Capability Maturity Model® Integration for Development Version 1.2 (CMMI-DEV). The Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement Version 1.2 Class A, or SCAMPISM A, was used to provide this benchmark quality rating. A CMMI Maturity Level 3 rating is an explicit requirement in many U.S. military development solicitations to ensure process maturity, continuous improvement and best value for customers.
“CMMI Level 3 comes from our several hundred employees achieving this quality benchmark every day. Meeting the rigorous requirements of CMMI confirms that our ongoing efforts to establish and improve standard processes are making us more efficient and competitive.”
The CMMI process improvement model was developed by the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute, a research and development center funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. Maturity Level 3 (ML3) means that engineering and program management standard processes are well characterized and understood across the organization.
“Continuous improvement is at the heart of our operational strategy. When we stay focused on productivity and efficiency, we can deliver our customers the best possible products — affordably and rapidly,” said Senior Vice President and General Manager Ellen Lord. “CMMI Level 3 comes from our several hundred employees achieving this quality benchmark every day. Meeting the rigorous requirements of CMMI confirms that our ongoing efforts to establish and improve standard processes are making us more efficient and competitive.”
