Cedrus Investments Announces Dr. Thomas W. Kenny as Chief Emerging Technology Advisor
HONG KONG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cedrus Investments, a global boutique investment firm specializing in Investment Management and Financial Advisory Services, has named Dr. Thomas W. Kenny as its Chief Emerging Technology Advisor. Dr. Kenny is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University and an internationally renowned nanotechnology and micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) expert.
“We are delighted to have Tom joining our advisory board. Tom will lead our research on emerging technology and support our investment team in selecting the best investment opportunities in a field for which he is an international leader.”
Recently, Dr. Kenny returned to Stanford after taking a four-year-long assignment at the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). As the Program Manager in the Microsystems Technology Office at DARPA, Dr. Kenny launched and managed a >$250 million portfolio with a focus on nanomaterials for thermal management, nanomanufacturing, and manipulation of mechanical forces at the nanometer scale.
Dr. Kenny has also acquired extensive industry experience from his employment tenures at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Cooligy and SiTime. At NASA, Dr. Kenny served as the Technical Group Leader at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he pioneered the development of MEMS sensors and instruments for miniature spacecraft. In addition, Dr. Kenny was the Chief Technical Officer at Cooligy, a venture-backed startup manufacturing cooling technology for computers, servers, and other compact electronic systems that was acquired by Emerson in 2005. Dr. Kenny also co-founded SiTime, a venture-backed startup that uses micromechanical resonators to build high-performance timing systems for electronics products. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Technical Advisory board at SiTime.
Dr. Kenny earned a B.S. in Physics from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley. Throughout his career, he has directed research resulting in more than 120 archival journal publications, 140 conference papers, and 50 issued patents all related to the design, fabrication, characterization and application of micro and nano devices in many different disciplines.
Dr. Kenny said, “I have known Cedrus’ management for over five years. I am excited to be joining Cedrus right now because there are so many important nanotechnology-derived phenomena that are poised to make impact as key enablers across many sectors of industry. I look forward to working with the Cedrus team to help identify investment opportunities that are linked to the emergence of these new capabilities."
Rani Jarkas, Cedrus’ Chairman, said, “We are delighted to have Tom joining our advisory board. Tom will lead our research on emerging technology and support our investment team in selecting the best investment opportunities in a field for which he is an international leader.”
