Hamilton Sundstrand Rolls Out iBASEt’s Solumina Manufacturing Operations Process Management (OPM) System
FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--iBASEt successfully implemented their newly released version of G7 in November 2010 at Hamilton Sundstrand, a United Technologies Corporation. Hamilton Sundstrand is among the largest global suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and industrial products. Their three major business segments include Aircraft Systems (Commercial and Military), Industrial, and Space Systems. Hamilton Sundstrand implemented the Solumina Manufacturing Execution System (MES) in record time, largely by adopting industry best practices enabled by Solumina core functionality and by utilizing Solumina’s Business Integration Services. Another key enabler for the project’s success was streamlining integration points into various back office systems and keeping software customizations to an absolute minimum. Zafar Shah, Information Technology manager for the Solumina program, stated, “One of the key goals of the project was to implement an out of the box software solution to allow the business to quickly realize the benefits of the software while ensuring future technology and functionality upgrades are implemented quickly and efficiently for our customers.”
“Our intent is to fully leverage the commercial suite of products within Solumina and standardize practices to manage quality and production across the supply chain and shop floor using one integrated software package.”
Hamilton Sundstrand’s goals for this project included implementation of standard work and best practices in the focus areas of work instructions, nonconforming material management and streamlined data collection across a diverse product mix located around the globe. Also critical to Hamilton Sundstrand’s implementation methodology is the incorporation of key lessons learned during each successive rollout. Reducing turn backs reduces costs and improves the quality of the product for our operations organization worldwide. Solumina is adding tremendous value and benefit to the organization, some of which go beyond the often stated areas for which it was intended. Examples include: Higher productivity gained by streamlining the production information flow and replacing many paper-centric processes for production readiness, quality management, history sheets, and data packages delivered with the product.
Hamilton Sundstrand’s next steps are to roll out Solumina’s Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) applications. Brian Galovich, Director of Information Technology, stated, “Our intent is to fully leverage the commercial suite of products within Solumina and standardize practices to manage quality and production across the supply chain and shop floor using one integrated software package.”
Vic Sial, President of iBASEt, stated, “Solumina G7 incorporates practices developed with industry leaders over the last 18 years―practices that span across different departments integrating Process Planning, Process Execution, Process Quality, Corrective Action, MRO, and Supplier Quality Management into well integrated business processes. Leading manufacturers like Hamilton Sundstrand are seeing the value of this integrated footprint and are broadly adopting it across their manufacturing supply chain.”
