ON Semiconductor Introduces Wide Range of New LDO Linear Voltage Regulators Including Ultra-Small XDFN Packaged Devices
PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), a premier supplier of high performance silicon solutions for energy efficient electronics, has introduced three new families of wide input voltage, low dropout (LDO) Linear Voltage Regulators. The company’s strong capability in this area has been further strengthened by the addition of new devices to its popular NCP58x portfolio.
“This comprehensive expansion of our LDO voltage regulator portfolio underlines ON Semiconductor’s considerable expertise and market leadership in this area”
The Complementary Metal–Oxide–Semiconductor (CMOS) devices use the latest technology to deliver benefits including reduced power consumption, improved noise performance, and a wide choice of small form factor packages. Applications encompass a wide range of end products ranging from entertainment systems to small, portable lithium-ion coin cell powered equipment.
The first of the new families comprises the 50 milliampere (mA) and 150 mA NCP4640 and NCP4641 products. These devices have a wide input voltage range of 4 volts (V) to 36 V and a maximum input voltage tolerance of 50 V. A low quiescent current of 9 microamperes (µA) helps reduce power consumption when the devices are idle. Both are offered as standard in a SOT-89-5 package with a SOIC-6-TL power package available on request.
The NCP4629 is a 500 mA LDO Linear Voltage Regulator with an input voltage range of 4 V to 24 V and a maximum input tolerance of 36 V. An Enable pin allows the device to be placed in a power saving standby mode, while a wide operating temperature range (−40°C to 105°C) makes the NCP4629 an ideal choice for high power industrial applications. It comes in a thermally efficient DPAK-5 package.
At the lower end of the input voltage range, ON Semiconductor has introduced the 150 mA NCP4620 and the NCP4625 which can drive over 300 mA. Both have excellent ripple rejection characteristics and low quiescent current values. An input voltage range of 2.6 V to 10 V makes them ideal for applications in products powered by two lithium ion cells. The NCP4620 and NCP4625 are available in a choice of SC-70-5 and SOT-23-5 packages.
There are four additions to the NCP58x range. The 150 mA NCP4586 is available in a choice of three packages, including UDFN. The 150 mA NCP4587 and the 300 mA NCP4589 switch to a low power mode under light current loads and automatically switch back to a fast response mode as the output load increases above 3 mA. Designers can choose from a number of package styles, one of which is the ultra-thin XDFN which is just 0.4 mm in height. The final new LDO linear voltage regulator is the 200 mA NCP4588, which is a new addition to ON Semiconductor’s NOCAP™ portfolio. This device gives stable operation without the need for an output capacitor; this helps reduce the overall component count of a design, saves valuable PCB real estate and contributes to a more robust solution for hostile environments. This device is also available in the XDFN package.
“This comprehensive expansion of our LDO voltage regulator portfolio underlines ON Semiconductor’s considerable expertise and market leadership in this area,” said Mike Paquette, director of ON Semiconductor’s regulation business unit. “We are especially pleased to introduce devices in the ultra-small, ultra-thin XDFN package style that helps designers address the demand for increasing amounts of functionality in smaller equipment housings.”
ON Semiconductor’s new LDO linear voltage regulator devices are priced between $0.25 and $0.60 per unit.
