CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The material handling, supply chain and logistics industry’s premier event, ProMat 2011, opens next week in Chicago’s McCormick Place. ProMat 2011 will feature over 700 exhibits and an Educational Conference that features Keynotes on supply chain security and the next generation of robotic innovation.
ProMat Attendees Signal Economic Recovery is Strengthening
ProMat 2011 attendees are registering in record numbers for the event. When attendees register, they are asked to answer a variety of demographic questions indicating their industry, buying authority and buying plans. Below are some highlights from current ProMat 2011 attendee demographics.
- 49% are corporate or senior management
- 28% are middle management
- 85% have buying power
- 60% buy solutions for distribution centers,
- 48% buy solutions for warehouses supporting manufacturing
- 51% buy solutions for a manufacturing facility
- 30% plan on spending over $1 million over the next 18 months
- 81% are coming to see new products
- 54% are coming to network and learn.
These statistics are an indication that the economic recovery is strengthening for material handling, supply chain and logistics as manufacturing, wholesale and retail industries are planning increased capital expenditures over the next 18 months.
ProMat 2011 Conference Will Address Supply Chain Security, Sustainability and Career Development
Natural disasters, terrorism, vendor issues, and geopolitical influences can put issues such as supply chain security, cross-border collaborations and security investment at the forefront of every proactive business agenda. During the Keynote titled Fortune Favors the Brave: The Net Gain of Supply Chain Security in a Risk-Based World, former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge will share his views of today's risk-centric environment and how to minimize those risks in favor of greater resiliency and security across your global supply chain.
ProMat’s second Keynote titled The Development of Robonaut 2: A story of Government-Industry Collaboration and Technology Transfer will detail how NASA and General Motors are working together to accelerate development of the next generation of robots and related technologies for use in the automotive, aerospace and other industries. This partnership lead to development of Robonaut 2 (R2), a state-of-the-art dexterous humanoid robot that can complete simple, repetitive, or especially dangerous tasks and is capable of handling a wide range of tools and interfaces.
In addition, ProMat will also feature two half-day educational tracks that will provide in-depth coverage on supply chain career development and sustainability. These tracks are titled The People Side of the Supply Chain and Sustainability, the Supply Chain and their Future Together.
ProMat 2011 Show Floor Education
In addition to the Keynotes and Tracks, ProMat 2011 will feature 90 focused educational seminars conveying a broad array of manufacturing, distribution and supply chain topics.
