Allegiant Air Selects AmSafe’s Lightweight Passenger Seatbelt
PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AmSafe® Industries, Inc., the leading provider of highly engineered restraint systems, today announced that Allegiant Air will equip their MD-80 aircraft with AmSafe’s next generation lightweight passenger seatbelt. This streamlined version of AmSafe’s traditional design is nearly 25 percent lighter than the restraint installed on the majority of the world’s commercial fleet.
“Our lightweight seatbelt, which retains the iconic teardrop buckle design familiar to passengers around the world, is an important component of any weight-reduction plan geared toward improved fuel efficiency.”
“As carriers once again face the challenge of extremely high fuel costs, they continue to look for innovative ways to reduce cabin weight,” said Herb Mardany, senior vice president of AmSafe Industries, Inc. “Our lightweight seatbelt, which retains the iconic teardrop buckle design familiar to passengers around the world, is an important component of any weight-reduction plan geared toward improved fuel efficiency.”
“AmSafe’s lightweight seatbelt is an ideal complement to our 3100 FeatherWeight™ series seat. The combined selection by Allegiant of lightweight products will provide an industry-leading weight savings solution,” said Rick Salanitri, president of TIMCO Aerosystems, a leading manufacturer of commercial aircraft seats.
The lightweight seatbelt has the same patented performance qualities that AmSafe’s products have become known for. It has the same attach points as the conventional AmSafe seatbelt and can be easily retrofitted on both premium and economy seats.
AmSafe passenger restraints incorporate the most advanced technology available. AmSafe uses advanced materials, manufacturing techniques and in-house dynamic testing, along with continual research and development, to ensure that all seat occupants are safe and secure.
