DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo Donate Japan Relief Flight to EU Commission
BONN/FRANKFURT, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo today announced that they have donated a flight to support the European Commission in delivering relief goods to Japan. The flight to Tokyo, which was performed by the companies' joint air cargo subsidiary AeroLogic, departed Frankfurt airport on Monday and arrived in Tokyo this morning. DHL is currently delivering the goods directly to the final destinations.
The aircraft carried 30 tons of goods from Hungary, Slovakia and Sweden, including canned food, tents, blankets, sleeping bags, clothes, gloves and rubber boots. The supplies are desperately needed in the affected prefectures in Japan and are highly welcome by the Japanese authorities.
In a joint statement Ken Allen, CEO DHL Express, and Karl Ulrich Garnadt, CEO Lufthansa Cargo, said: "We are happy to be able to help the EU Commission in supporting the people of Japan. By adjusting our flight schedules and with the strongest support of everyone involved we gladly took the opportunity to deliver fast help directly to one of the areas that were impacted most by the tsunami."
