ESM SMT’S Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Planned for April 27, 2011
AMHERST, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In 2010 SKW and ESM management decided to establish a new Special Metals and Technology division adding focus and resources in order to grow its non Steel Industry business. The President of ESM Special Metals & Technology, Inc. (ESM SMT), Dr. Hartmut Meyer-Grunow states the new Division was put into business January 1st 2011 and will focus on Magnesium Metal Powders and Technology for Chemical, Countermeasures, Ordinance, Welding and other Applications. ESM SMT is bringing new production, with the latest technology both in quality and safety to the marketplace. This is being done based on many requests from the marketplace for a new supplier in North America.
At this time ESM is pleased to announce the inauguration of the newest Atomized Magnesium Metal Powder production facility in North America to be held April 27th at 10:30 a.m. at its Saxonburg, PA plant. Construction for the first phase of the +$7 million new facility, a new 4200 square foot building, began in October 2010 with production to commence in the second quarter of 2011.
The new Magnesium powder atomization plant will produce fine and ultrafine spherical Magnesium powders. These powders are essential ingredients for military countermeasures (flares) that are used to protect aircraft from missiles. ESM is excited about this project that will provide the U.S. Department of Defense with a much-needed second source for critical countermeasure applications. ESM SMT plans on commencing production mid year and to make test shipments to our customers early in the 3rd Q of 2011.
