Grupo Aeroportuario Del Pacifico Reports Passenger Traffic Decrease of 5.1% for March 2011
GUADALAJARA, Jalisco, Mexico--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico, S.A.B. de C.V. (NYSE: PAC; BMV: GAP) (“the Company” or “GAP”) announced today preliminary terminal passenger traffic figures for the month of March 2011 compared to traffic figures for March 2010.
It is important to mention that during 2010, the Holy Week vacation period took place during the month of March. However in 2011, this vacation period will take place during April. As a result, year-over-year growth figures are not perfectly comparable. This distortion is particularly noticeable in the airports that have higher tourist traffic.
During March 2011, total terminal passengers decreased 5.1% compared to the previous year; domestic passenger traffic increased 6.0%, while international passenger traffic decreased 3.6% compared to March 2010.
Material Events for the Month
During March, several airlines initiated routes covering the market previously operated by Grupo Mexicana de Aviación and serving the demand resulting from this carrier’s exit. Such routes include: Volaris with the Guadalajara - Las Vegas route and VivaAerobus with the Guadalajara – Tuxtla Gutiérrez route.
Additionally, VivaAerobus initiated a new route from Guadalajara to Villahermosa.
