MercuryGate Announces FreightFriend
CARY, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MercuryGate International Inc., a market leader in Transportation Management Systems (TMS), announced a new product offering, FreightFriend, a relationship based, full-featured load and truck internet posting service.
“The partnership with MercuryGate is a perfect match. Their strong market share of freight brokers and 3PLs means the friend network of carriers and shippers will grow quickly”
FreightFriend is a private network website for shippers, brokers and carriers. Shippers and brokers post loads that are visible only to the carriers they trust – their “friends”. Carriers post available capacity and regular lanes to one web site, knowing that only their shipper or broker “friends” can see and utilize them. Full radius based searching and matching functionality seamlessly connects the right loads with the right trucks.
“It is perfect for trucking companies, shippers, brokers, 3PLs and freight management companies who are selective about who they work with,” said Monica Wooden, CEO of MercuryGate. “Traditional public bid boards work for some but are too risky for others. FreightFriend opens access to available capacity from carriers familiar to the shipper.”
"Social media tools and concepts, which have transformed the way people communicate in their personal lives, are now starting to enter the business realm," said Adrian Gonzalez, Director at Logistics Viewpoints. "One of the key learnings from the consumer experience is that privacy is important. Although you can make information about yourself visible to the general public, most people prefer to share information only with individuals they already trust and have a relationship with. This will be the norm in the business world too, and especially in transportation, where shippers place the reputation of their companies and brands in the trust of their carriers. And the stakes are even greater today with the introduction of the CSA 2010 safety initiative. FreightFriend improves the load posting model by making it relationship-based, thereby reducing risks and uncertainty for all of the parties involved."
FreightFriend was conceived and developed by Noam Frankel, one of the founders of American Backhaulers, and is jointly owned with MercuryGate. “The partnership with MercuryGate is a perfect match. Their strong market share of freight brokers and 3PLs means the friend network of carriers and shippers will grow quickly,” says Noam. “As capacity in the market gets tighter, MercuryGate and FreightFriend offers an efficient way to continue to find the best available carrier at the best available rate.”
FreightFriend is free to carriers, shippers and brokers. FreightFriend Plus will be offered at a low monthly subscription fee for those who want the extended functionality. Both will be fully integrated into MercuryGate’s TMS and Carrier Management System (Carma). FreightFriend is also available to integrate with other TMS providers.

About MercuryGate International, Inc.
MercuryGate delivers solutions that allow shippers, carriers, freight forwarders and third party logistics providers to plan their transportation, execute their freight movements, and analyze the performance of all involved. Customers optimize loads, rate and route loads, spot quote through both private and public bid boards, tender freight, track movements, audit carrier freight invoices, and send customer invoices. Through a customizable workflow engine, MercuryGate customers are able to move the straightforward parcel, LTL (less than truckload), and truckload shipments as well as the more demanding multi-leg ocean, air, and rail movements.
