LONDON, May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

Following BAA's announcement that Heathrow saw more passengers last month than in any other April on record, this could be the beginning of a new holiday trend for 2011, say dealchecker.co.uk.

New figures released by BAA have revealed that Heathrow had its busiest April on record, with a staggering 5.8 million passengers passing through the airport last month. This figure marks a 4.22% increase from 2009, compared to the 31.1% for 2010 due to the disruption caused by the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud. While 2010 was a very difficult year for travel, these new figures show that more people have decided to go on a foreign holiday this year, which is great news for the holiday industry, say dealchecker.co.uk ().

Alex Saint, CEO of dealchecker.co.uk says: "These new figures from BAA are really very encouraging because they show that more people went on holiday abroad last month compared to the same month in 2009, and despite the setbacks from last year. As we're all aware last year was a very difficult one for everyone involved in the travel industry, especially travellers, who had flights cancelled, delayed and their holidays marred by a number of issues, such as the volcanic ash cloud."

The increase of passengers at Heathrow last month was part of an overall increase in traffic at all six of BAA's () British airports, which handled 9.1 million passengers in total, compared to 8.9 million in 2009. The second biggest rise was recorded at Edinburgh airport, which reported the second highest increase of passengers in April, with 776,000 people using the airport that month, an increase of 3.19% compared to the same time in 2009. With the number of passengers opting for international air travel last month rising dramatically, holiday companies can expect more bookings for flights to New York ( ) and Orlando.

Saint continues: "The increase in overall passenger numbers in April is just fantastic, because it shows that travellers have confidence in air travel once more, and that there's nothing stopping them booking, say, a family holiday to Egypt ( ). At dealchecker, we are particularly pleased with these figures as we realise that the Easter holidays are a good indicator for the level of demand of holidays during the summer, and if these figures are anything to go by, we can expect a lot more bookings for summer holidays this year."
