Travelocity Travel Pricing Barometer Finds Now is Best for Booking Memorial Day Airfare
SOUTHLAKE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Travelocity’s new Travel Pricing Barometer shows right now may be a great time to find cheap flights for Memorial Day weekend. Four years (2007 – 2010) of booking data for the holiday weekend were analyzed in an attempt to find a ‘sweet spot’ and potentially save consumers money at the same time.
“Travelers who haven’t yet booked their Memorial Day weekend air travel can use this information as a guide when booking. Based on historical data, right now is probably the best time to get a deal for the holiday weekend”
Aggregate pricing shows that there has historically been a slight dip in airfare four weeks before Memorial Day (-2 percent) as compared to five weeks out. The historical data also show a slight price increase (1 percent) three weeks out followed by a more dramatic increase of five percent two weeks out and a 16 percent spike one week out.
| Weeks until Memorial Day weekend | Average price paid 2007-2010 | Corresponding dates in 2011 | ||||||
