Boingo Wireless Launches Managed Wi-Fi Services at New Bangkok Airport
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Boingo Wireless, Inc., the Wi-Fi industry’s leading provider of software and services worldwide, announced today that it has launched managed Wi-Fi services at Bangkok’s new Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) through an agreement with WLANnet, a Milcom Systems company. The Boingo network is immediately available in this location.
“Ensuring that the largest possible contingency of travelers can connect to Wi-Fi as they pass through Suvarnabhumi International Airport is a key driver behind this agreement.”
As part of the agreement, Boingo will broadcast its “Boingo Hotspot” SSID and fully manage the end user experience through walled garden sales pages and gateway hardware. This includes the launch of the new Boingo pricing plan for Asia Pacific, which provides unlimited Wi-Fi access across partner networks in Asia and Australasia for one low price.
“As one of the most heavily trafficked airports in Asia, BKK creates a great opportunity to establish a persistent Boingo presence among Wi-Fi users on their way in or out of Bangkok,” said Allen Pan, Boingo’s director of Asia Pacific. “This provides a great platform for selling our new Boingo Asia Pacific plan, which is specifically targeted at regional travelers who need a cost-effective and simple solution to Wi-Fi roaming.”
“As a global leader in neutral host roaming, Boingo will enable access to the airport for Wi-Fi users with accounts from a wide variety of home service providers,” said Rattana Metem, Managing Director from WLANnet. “Ensuring that the largest possible contingency of travelers can connect to Wi-Fi as they pass through Suvarnabhumi International Airport is a key driver behind this agreement.”
The network will share the WLANnet infrastructure, but authentication, sales and traffic will be managed by Boingo. The agreement also allows Boingo to offer access to the airport to roaming partners and platform service partners, who pay wholesale rates to Boingo to access networks within the company’s hotspot portfolio.
According to ACI figures for 2010, Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport is the fifth busiest airport in Asia and the 17th busiest airport in the world, handling an estimated 42.7 million passengers during the year.
