The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Recognizes Baker’s Saint Lucie County International Airport Runway Mitigation Project
TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The St. Lucie County International Airport recently received the 2010 Regional Director’s Conservation Award from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Southeast Region, for its runway mitigation area project. The LPA Group Incorporated, a unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Amex:BKR), redesigned and developed a management plan to restore a wetland habitat area, enhance a gopher tortoise relocation area, and create one of a handful of successful Florida Scrub Jay Mitigation Banks.

Baker performed a gopher tortoise survey, scrub jay incidental survey, wetland and upland vegetation monitoring, exotic plant species control and removal, site evaluation survey, development of annual monitoring report, management plan enhancement, and regulatory agency coordination.
