DDC-I Announces ARINC 653 Part 4 Prototyping Platform on Deos Safety-Critical Real-Time Operating System
PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DDC-I, a leading supplier of software and professional services for mission- and safety-critical applications, today announced that its Deos™ safety-critical real-time operating system (RTOS) will support ARINC Specification 653 Part 4 when the final version of the specification is approved. DDC-I also announced that they have a demonstrable version of the product designed to a working draft of the specification for customers to begin prototyping and development with this key emerging specification. ARINC Specification 653 Part 4 is being defined by the AEEC Application/Executive (APEX) Subcommittee, which is co-chaired by representatives from Airbus and Boeing, and includes representation by Dassault, Embraer, GE Aviation, Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, Thales and other industry leaders. AEEC is the Airlines Electronic Engineering Committee, the body responsible for ARINC Standards.

ARINC Specification 653 defines an Application/Executive Interface between an avionics computer’s operating system and application software that simplifies software design, enhances portability and reuse, and reduces the cost of avionics software certification. ARINC 653 Part 4 provides a strict subset of the services defined by ARINC 653 Part 1, extending the benefits of ARINC 653 to systems that do not require the size, complexity and features of the full specification, such as the majority of the Line Replaceable Units (LRU) on next generation aircraft. ARINC 653 Part 4 utilizes a simplified execution model with a time- and space-partitioned software environment that allows multiple partitions with only one or two processes per partition. The lightweight specification’s goal is to maintain compatibility with ARINC 653 Part 1 while simplifying software design and dynamic behavior, thereby reducing OS footprint, overhead, complexity, with the ability to deliver strong real-time performance.
