Trans States Pilots Ratify New Contract
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The pilots of Trans States Airlines (TSA), represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l. (ALPA), overwhelmingly voted to ratify a contract reached with management earlier this month. Of the 85 percent of eligible pilots who voted, 93 percent voted to ratify the agreement, which includes a signing bonus, wage increases, better work rules, and stronger job security provisions.
“The successful ratification of this contract by the pilots of Trans States Airlines is the culmination of a lot of hard work on both sides and a testament to our pilots’ perseverance and our Negotiating Committee delivering on the goals set by our pilots”
“The successful ratification of this contract by the pilots of Trans States Airlines is the culmination of a lot of hard work on both sides and a testament to our pilots’ perseverance and our Negotiating Committee delivering on the goals set by our pilots,” said Capt. Jason Ruszin, chairman of the TSA unit of ALPA. “Now we can focus on operating a more successful airline through cooperation and mutual benefit.”
“The new agreement includes improvements in many sections of our contract with significant improvements in compensation,” said Capt. Ruszin. “Most importantly for our first officers, second-year F/O pay will no longer be 25 percent below industry average and the previous five-year limitation on their pay scale has been lifted. Additional enhancements not only put all our pilots’ pay on par with others in the industry, but also provide a better overall work environment.”
This new deal will bring the TSA pilots closer to the industry standard with an average 11.7 percent increase in captain’s pay and an average 14.5 percent increase in first officer’s pay.
“As airline pilots, we will always make significant contributions to our airlines’ success,” said Capt. Lee Moak, president of the Air Line Pilots Association. “Throughout these negotiations, the TSA pilots acted professionally and continued to promote the value they bring to the company’s daily operations, strategic business plan, and bottom line. I congratulate them on ratifying this contract that will allow both sides to grow and prosper in this current economic climate. The TSA pilots are well positioned with the full support, resources, and voice of the world’s most powerful pilot union.”
Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilot union, representing more than 53,000 pilots at 39 airlines in the United States and Canada, including the nearly 300 pilots of TSA. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org.
