BAE Systems Showcases Visual Threat Training Simulators at Army Expo
Dépèche transmise le 10 octobre 2011 par Business Wire
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--For more than 12 years, BAE Systems has provided military training simulators that prepare aircrews to identify and defend against hostile anti-aircraft engagements. Now more than 60 of the Visual Threat Recognition and Avoidance Trainer (VTRAT) simulators are in use by the U.S. Air Force across the country and, internationally, through a new system acquired by the Royal Australian Air Force.
“These simulators can help increase the confidence of aircrews, reduce response times and ultimately save lives.”
The simulators, which combine interactive computer scenarios with advanced tutoring methodologies, are also available to other branches of the military. BAE Systems is demonstrating VTRAT’s full capabilities at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting and Exposition this week in Washington.
“The VTRAT program provides critically important personnel training for ground-to-air threats, including rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire,” said Scott Black, vice president and general manager of Global Mission Solutions at BAE Systems Support Solutions. “These simulators can help increase the confidence of aircrews, reduce response times and ultimately save lives.”
The Air Force uses VTRAT to train crews from 16 different types of aircraft for more than 80 aircrew observation positions. Through a series of command-specific, tailored lessons and courses, each simulator introduces or refreshes skills needed to visually identify threats, initiate evasive maneuvers and deploy countermeasures. BAE Systems also provides technical support, software and courseware development, and services to maintain the simulators.
BAE Systems has been the lead VTRAT contractor and supplier to the Air Force since 1999. Employees also support U.S. forces on-site, where needed, and tailor the simulators to meet various risks and threats.
BAE Systems Support Solutions is a sector of BAE Systems, Inc., based in Arlington, Virginia.
