Cytec Materials Take Flight On 787
Dépèche transmise le 26 octobre 2011 par Business Wire
WOODLAND PARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cytec Industries’ (NYSE:CYT) Engineered Materials division congratulates The Boeing Company on the 787 Dreamliner’s entry into service with launch customer ANA. This historic event marks the inauguration of the first large commercial transport with significant use of composite materials for wing and fuselage structures. Cytec Engineered Materials is proud to supply advanced carbon fiber prepregs, infusion resins, adhesives and surfacing materials that enable these structures and congratulates Boeing on this historic achievement.
“We commend Boeing’s innovation, courage and conviction in advancing the use of composite materials and look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with Boeing as large-scale aerospace composites adoption takes flight.”
Materials used in manufacture of the 787’s fuselage structures include a family of Cytec’s infusion resin products. These materials provide exceptional structural performance while allowing use of alternate composite manufacturing methods like out-of-autoclave processing and resin film infusion that increase manufacturing economics. The 787 fuselage and nacelles also employ Cytec’s industry leading surfacing film, SURFACEMASTER® 905, which eliminates composite component surface irregularities reducing time required to prepare components for painting. By reducing cycle times and allowing flexible manufacturing methods, Cytec’s materials enable composite usage for rate production.
In addition to wing and fuselage materials, Cytec supplies a portfolio of prepregs, adhesives and surfacing materials used on the 787 in supporting structure (ribs, flaps, fairings, etc.), interior and engine applications. Cytec’s epoxy, phenolic, bismaleimide and thermoplastic technologies are used throughout the aircraft.
“Cytec is honored to be an integral part of this historic program,” stated Chris Pederson, Vice President – Aerospace, Engineered Materials. “We commend Boeing’s innovation, courage and conviction in advancing the use of composite materials and look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with Boeing as large-scale aerospace composites adoption takes flight.”
