Navis Invests in New Resources and Talent to Support Growth
Dépèche transmise le 8 novembre 2011 par Business Wire
OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation and the global technology standard for managing the movement of cargo through terminals, today announced the company has made a significant investment in resources and new talent to meet the increasing demand from customers and the evolving requirements of the industry. The industry is undergoing a period of renewed investment in technology as customers seek to upgrade to the SPARCS N4 terminal operating system (TOS), and take advantage of new automation capabilities, a move underpinned by the demand of the industry to manage larger vessels and increase efficiency.
“Continuing to grow our leadership, expertise and internal resources in this area is a major focus for Navis, as we strive to better serve our customers and deliver the efficiencies to allow them to succeed.”
Since the acquisition of Navis by Cargotec Corporation in the first quarter of this year, Navis has accelerated its expansion, adding talent and development capability with a 25 percent increase in professional services, and with additional staff in product development and customer support in Europe, the Americas, India and Asia, all to support the growing Navis customer base. In Latin America alone, Navis has recently added four new customers including Altamira LNG Terminal, Super Terminais, Tecplata and Contecon Manzanillo.
“According to an internal research report on Terminal Operation Opportunities conducted by Moffat and Nichol earlier this year, the trend towards automation in the industry is accelerating, and we are seeing this in our customer and prospect base with an estimated 15 terminal facilities planning to use automated equipment by 2015 and three major terminal projects planned by 2020,” said Bill Walsh, president and CEO of Navis, LLC. “Continuing to grow our leadership, expertise and internal resources in this area is a major focus for Navis, as we strive to better serve our customers and deliver the efficiencies to allow them to succeed.”
The demand for automation is being driven by changes in the dynamic of the shipping industry. Fully automated ports are anticipated to answer the industry’s call for more reliable and efficient movement of containerized cargo as shipping volumes rise by reducing potential manual errors in processes and coordination, and ultimately delivering more consistent and lower operating costs.
“As container volumes grow, being transported on larger ships, carriers will require more efficient discharge and loading from terminals to reduce the potential for congestion and to achieve the full efficiencies promised by larger vessels,” adds Walsh. “With our continued commitment to deliver superior automaton solutions, Navis can provide terminals with more opportunities to continue to be competitive.”
