Shuttle2LAX Still Has NO Fuel Surcharge!
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rising oil prices and the falling dollar have created record high gas prices for this early in the year.
“By having more customers, the shuttles can do all their pickups in a smaller area before heading to the airport. That means less distance between pickups and less gas”
But Shuttle2LAX.com is resisting the travel industry’s standard response of rising prices or implementing fuel surcharges to account for the higher cost of doing business.
“Our strategy this year is the same as last year,” said Paul Turner of Shuttle2LAX. “Instead of trying to figure out how to charge our passengers more, we’re focusing our efforts on bringing in more customers so that the shuttles become more efficient and we don’t have to charge more.”
Share ride shuttles become more efficient as customer density increases. “By having more customers, the shuttles can do all their pickups in a smaller area before heading to the airport. That means less distance between pickups and less gas,” said Turner.
Southwest Airlines pioneered a similar strategy in the past. When other airlines were raising prices and flying half empty, Southwest lowered prices and made each trip they took more efficient.
By sticking with their original $20 shuttle to LAX fare, Shuttle2LAX.com is making an effort to give customers the best possible deal. The higher cost of driving will also make their $20 fare more attractive to customers when pitted against driving themselves to the airport and parking or having friends or family spend their time and gas driving to the airport.
Over 200,000 people chose to book with Shuttle2LAX.com since its launch in January 2011. “We’re hoping to beat our numbers from last year and continue to offer a better more efficient service for the same price this year,” Turner stated. “We’ve counted on our customers to help spread the word about our service and they’ve come through so far. We have over 6,500 fans at Facebook.com/Shuttle2LAX and we’re going to need every one of them.”
