Excelitas Technologies Announces Completion of Investment in State-of-the-Art Automation to Expand Capacity for HARLID(TM)(High Angular Resolution Laser Irradiance Detector) Production in Response to Accelerating Demand
WALTHAM, Mass. & MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Excelitas Technologies, a global technology leader focused on delivering innovative, customized optoelectronics to OEMs seeking high-performance technology solutions, announced today that it has completed its investment in state-of-the-art automation to significantly expand manufacturing capacity of its HARLIDTM (High Angular Resolution Laser Irradiance Detector) used in cutting-edge Laser Warning Receiver Systems for ground vehicles, naval vessels, fixed or rotary wing aircraft, and static perimeter facilities.
“Our strategy of moving away from manual assembly to full automation is allowing us to reliably and predictably increase HARLID manufacturing volumes to meet growing demand, while at the same time maintaining the fit, form, and function of the platform”
Excelitas’ investment in expanded HARLID manufacturing capacity is in response to the ever-growing demand for protection against laser designation and ranging systems. The implementation of fully automated robotic technology in the factory dramatically increases the Company’s capacity for volume production of this highly complex device, commensurate with increasing market demand and recent design wins incorporating the HARLID in new Laser Warning Receiver Systems.
Excelitas’ HARLID is used to detect and provide angle-of-arrival information from direct and indirect scattered light from laser range finders, laser target designators, and active Electro-Optic (E.O.) systems. Precise angular resolution from the Laser Warning Receiver System is critical for effective countermeasures.
“Excelitas Technologies is proud to announce that our HARLID is now being assembled using fully automated robotic technology with no manual steps, consistent with our commitment to providing customers with the highest quality products for their mission-critical applications,” said Michael Ersoni, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Excelitas’ global detection business.
“Our strategy of moving away from manual assembly to full automation is allowing us to reliably and predictably increase HARLID manufacturing volumes to meet growing demand, while at the same time maintaining the fit, form, and function of the platform,” Mr. Ersoni added.
An interactive demonstration of Excelitas’ HARLID unit used in cutting-edge Laser Warning Receiver Systems will be on display at Excelitas’ Booth (#826) at the SPIE Defense, Sensing and Security Show in Baltimore, Md. on April 24-26, 2012.
