The survey’s indicators for activity and new orders, which had turned negative last month, recovered somewhat but are at very low positive readings. Firms indicated that employment grew modestly while the average workweek lessened. Indexes for prices show a continuing trend of moderating price pressures. The broadest indicator of future activity improved markedly this month, rebounding from its lowest reading in 31 months in June.

US Airways Group, Inc. today reported its second quarter 2011 financial results. The Company reported a net profit excluding special items for the second quarter 2011 of $106 million, or $0.56 per diluted share. This compares to the second quarter 2010 net profit excluding special items of $265 million, or $1.34 per diluted share. On a GAAP basis, the Company reported a net profit for the second quarter 2011 of $92 million, or $0.49 per diluted share. This compares to the second quarter 2010 net profit of $279 million, or $1.41 per diluted share.

Second quarter 2010 sales were $3.5 billion, and net income was $272 million, or $1.63 per diluted share.
