US Airways Group, Inc. Reports Third Quarter 2009 Financial Results

US Airways Group, Inc. today reported its third quarter 2009 results. For the third quarter, the Company reported a net loss of $80 million, or $(0.60) per share. This compares to a net loss of $866 million, or ($8.46) per share for the same period last year. Excluding special items, the Company reported a net loss of $110 million for its third quarter 2009, or ($0.83) per share. This compares to a net loss excluding special items of $243 million, or ($2.36) per share for the same period last year.

As AirTran Airways [NYSE:AAI] executives today announced a $10.4 million profit for the third quarter with projections of continued profitability, AirTran pilots expect management to recognize their contributions to the success of the airline at the bargaining table. The pilots, who are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), have been in contract negotiations for five years. Fitch Ratings assigns an underlying 'A+' rating to approximately $106 million City and County of Denver, Colorado, (the city), series 2009C airport system revenue bonds for the Denver International Airport (DIA). The series 2009C bonds will be issued as variable-rate demand obligations with a direct-pay letter of credit (LOC) provided by JP Morgan Chase Bank, National Association (currently rated 'AA-/F1+' by Fitch) supporting the bonds. Fitch also affirms the 'A+' rating on the city's approximately $4.1 billion in outstanding airport system revenue bonds. All airport system revenue bonds are payable from the net revenues of the airport system. The Rating Outlook on all bonds is Stable.
