Indicateur precoce de developpement economique general, le fret aerien poursuit son essor, se rattrapant des effets de la crise economique. Enregistrant pres de 156 000 tonnes en juillet 2009, le taux de declin du fret aerien de l'aeroport de Francfort (FRA) s'est stabilise dans une fourchette a un seul chiffre, pour la premiere fois cette annee. Le debit de fret n'a baisse que de 9,4 % par rapport a l'annee precedente ; en juin 2009, la baisse enregistrait toujours 16,5 %. Le trafic de passagers beneficie d'evolutions satisfaisantes semblables : environ 4,9 millions de passagers ont utilise l'aeroport national de Fraport au cours du mois reporte, soit seulement 3,3 % moins de passagers qu'en juillet 2008. Pour les sept premiers mois de l'annee, le trafic de passagers de FRA a enregistre une baisse de 7,3 %.

An early indicator of general economic development, airfreight continues its rise from the economic trough. With about 156,000 metric tons registered in July 2009, Frankfurt Airport's (FRA) rate of decline in airfreight moved into the single-figure range for the first time this year. Freight throughput fell only 9.4 percent year-on-year; in June 2009 the drop was still 16.5 percent. Passenger traffic enjoyed similar satisfying development: Some 4.9 million passengers used Fraport's home-base airport FRA in the reporting month, only 3.3 percent fewer passengers than in July 2008. For the first seven months of the year FRA's passenger slide narrowed to 7.3 percent.

Astronics Corporation , a leader in advanced, high performance lighting, electrical power and automated test systems for the global aerospace and defense industries, announced today that its subsidiary, Advanced Electronic Systems Corp. (AES), has signed contracts with two Asian commercial airlines totaling approximately $7.4 million for its EMPOWER^® In-Seat Power Supply System (ISPS). The contracts include intelligent power control systems, in-seat power converters, cables, and ancillary equipment that allow passengers to connect their personal electronic devices (PED) – including laptop computers – to AC power outlets installed in the aircraft. The systems are to be installed on both retrofit and new wide-body Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Deliveries, which initially began earlier this year, are expected to continue through mid-2011.
